In 1993  the U.S. Green Building Council established their mission: to promote Sustainability in the building and construction industry. They founded LEED: The most widely recognized and widely used green building program across the globe. LEED is currently certifying 1.5 million square feet of building space, every day, in over 135 countries. Today, more than 54,000 projects are currently participating in LEED, comprising more than 10.1 billion square feet of construction space.  The USGBC is comprised of 
76 chapters, 12,870 member organizations and 197,000 LEED professionals strong.

California Title 24 Code and LEED Similarities 
In California for 2015 there was an update to building energy and efficiency code requirements.   Owners and developers will be pleased to discover the many direct similar requirements between LEED, Title 24, CalGreen and CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools).  For those applications, to attain all the LEED Certification benefits, simply only added documents and fees would need to be filed.   To see the similar code equivalents in the example of Building Commissioning, click this link :  LEED and Title 24, CalGreen and CHPS.
